The Cosmic Brain As Seen By The JWST

These are both JWST images of the Exposed Cranium Nebula (PMR 1). The image on the left is from the JWST's NIRCam, while the image on the right is from MIRI. A dying star has ejected its outer layer and illuminated it with its powerful radiation. The resulting nebula looks every bit like a transparent human skull. Astronomers are calling the unusual structure the Exposed Cranium Nebula.
